According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Nashville Predators have acquired defenceman Alex Biega from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for future considerations.

Biega, 33, is on a one-year, two-way contract which carries a cap hit of $750,000 at the NHL level. He has spent the majority of the season in the American Hockey League with the Toronto Marlies, but has suited up for two games with the Leafs.

Prior to the 2021-22 season, Biega has been used primarily as a depth defender at the NHL level, having logged 243-career games in stints with the Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, and as mentioned the Leafs. In those 243 games he has managed four goals and 42 points. He is simply an insurance option for the Preds as they look to hold down the top wild card position in the Western Conference as the playoffs approach.
