According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the San Jose Sharks are closing in on a eight-year contract extension with forward Tomas Hertl. LeBrun's colleague at TSN, Chris Johnston is reporting that Hertl's new contract will be in the $8 million AAV range.

Hertl, 28, has spent his entire nine-year career with the Sharks after they selected him in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. In 562 career games, the Prague native has 371 points (176 G, 195 A), 182 penalty minutes, and is a minus-eight.

There were reports over the last few months that stated Hertl could leave San Jose via trade before the deadline at 3 p.m. ET on March 21st. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent in July.
