Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux is set to play in his 1,000th career game in the National Hockey League on Thursday night, and after that, it's expected that trade talks will heat up ahead of Monday's deadline.

Giroux's tenure in Philadelphia has lasted parts of fifteen seasons, but one thing that has eluded the Hearst native is the Stanley Cup. The closest Giroux got to winning the Stanley Cup was in 2010, when they lost the final to the Chicago Blackhawks in six games.

It's been 47 years since the Flyers won their last Stanley Cup. But their lack of playoff success isn't solely on Claude Giroux, Flyers head coach Mike Yeo told reporters on Wednesday.

"The fact that we don't have a Stanley Cup, that's completely unfair to put on "G". I was with Crosby in Pittsburgh. He had Malkin. Ovechkin in Washington. Had Carlson. It didn't take anything away from Ray Bourque [that he didn't win a Cup in Boston] and I view "G" the same way," Yeo said."

No matter where Giroux goes at the trade deadline, he will always be remembered as one of the best leaders the Flyers organization has seen in a very long time. Through 999 career games, Giroux has 900 points (291 G, 609 A), and despite being a 0.9 point-per-game player, he's never talked about as one of the best.

Among the teams interested in adding the 34-year-old are the Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche. Both of whom view their chances at winning the 2022 Stanley Cup as very high, and adding a player of Giroux's calibre would significantly increase those odds.
