The Montreal Canadiens announced on Wednesday that they've traded goaltender Michael McNiven to the Calgary Flames in exchange for future considerations.

McNiven, 24, was signed by the Canadiens as a free agent back in 2015. He made his NHL debut on January 24th, coming in for relief of Cayden Primeau in the third period of an 8-2 loss to Minnesota.

The logjam Montreal currently has in net meant that he wouldn't be getting the appearances in Laval anymore. Jake Allen may be returning in the next few weeks, that will force the Canadiens to send Samuel Montembeault down to Laval, who already has Cayden Primeau and Kevin Poulin.

In 11 games this season for Laval, McNiven has a record of 4-4-1 with a 4.04 G.A.A., an .869 save percentage and one shutout.
