Russian players playing in the NHL have had very little to say about Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and it looks like their home country is aiming to have them say even less. According to TSN's Rick Westhead, NHL agents have told their Russian clients to be very careful as a new law is under consideration in Russia that could lead to jail time for anyone who speaks out.

"Have connected about Russia's war in Ukraine with a number of NHL player agents who have Russian clients. Advice they all are giving players is to be careful. Russian parliament considering new law that could mean up to 15 yrs in prison for spreading 'fake news' about the war." - Rick Westhead, TSN

The new law, if enacted, would be Russia's way of crushing any dissent from the actions of President Vladimir Putin, who is widely viewed as the aggressor in the Russia-Ukraine situation.

Just two Russian NHL players have said anything publicly regarding the war. Alex Ovechkin, who was questioned on it due to his relationship with Putin said "no more war, please", although he stopped short of saying he doesn't support his Putin. Meanwhile, Nikita Zadorov made a post on his Instagram that stated "no war" and "stop it."
