Marie-Philip Poulin reportedly turns down ECHL contract offer

Yesterday it was reported by RDS, a Quebec-based media outlet, that the Trois-Rivières Lions, the ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, were interested in signing three-time Olympic gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin.
"I played with her, I know what she is capable of doing. I saw like everyone else what she still offered in terms of performance at the Olympics. I think she could hold her own with us. However, I don't know what awaits her. Does she have another commitment? Does professional hockey interest her? Does she want to take up this kind of challenge? These answers belong to her. Me, on my side, all I can do is let her know our interest. If it's mutual, it could go pretty fast!" Lions general manager Marc-André Bergeron said.
Poulin is coming off her fourth Winter Olympics, where she won the gold medal for a third time and finished the tournament with 17 points in seven games.
Despite the interest and contract offer from the Trois-Rivières Lions, Poulin has decided not to sign with them according to her agent at Momentum Hockey.
"Marie-Philip has no intention of joining the Trois-Rivières Lions organization, but invites them to join her and the hundreds of players who wish to showcase female talent in Canada," said Momentum Hockey in a statement.
They added, "We would like to thank the Trois-Rivières Lions organization, which was able to recognize the exceptional talent of Marie-Philip Poulin following this Olympic final. Marie-Philip has dedicated her career to the development and advancement of women's hockey. She intends to continue her work of persuasion so that there is a professional women's hockey league."
Marie-Philip Poulin has cemented her legacy as one of, if not the greatest women's hockey player of all-time. It will be interesting to see what is next for her. After a well deserved vacation, Poulin will likely get back into training ahead of the 2022 IIHF Women's World Hockey Championship in August/September in Denmark.
