In a crazy video going viral online, a player was seen laying a massive hit on a referee that left his arm broken.

Player Lays A Massive hit On Referee That Left Him Lying Injured On the Ice

During a game in Sweden's 5th Tier League, a crazy incident occurred that saw a player lay a massive hit on the referee. During the play, the opposing player dumps the puck into the corner, and as the defenseman pivots, he bails out on the puck. The defenseman mistakes the referee as the opposing player, and lays a massive hit on him in the corner.

Rare situation that resulted in nothing but an injured referee. What do we think about it?

The hit left the referee lying on the ice until he was helped up and taken to the hospital, where it was revealed that he had broken his arm. There was no penalty on the play.

Player Claims the Hit Was A Complete Accident Despite Saying the Referee Was in the Way The Entire Game

The player responded to claims that the hit was intentional after the game. He claims it was entirely an accident, and that he was following through on a hit he thought was being delivered to his opponent. Interestingly, though, he said the referee was getting in the way the entire night.

"It's the final of the series and everyone is excited out there, especially me, who likes to play physically. The referee gets in the way, as he did the whole game. I had to stop their player and then the referee got in the way. Then he had to take the hit even though it was not the intention, of course."

We hope that the referee makes a speedy recovery. There have been no further details on whether the player will receive any supplemental punishment or not.
