The Anaheim Ducks are building a talented young core, and while Troy Terry, Leo Carlsson and Mason MacTavish are all key to that, there's no one more marketable for the Ducks than Trevor Zegras.

A breakout star

While his flashy style of play has ruffled the feathers of some veterans and retired players, his skill and flair on the ice have resonated with younger fans, leading him to the cover of the NHL 23 video game.
In 180 career games thus far, the 22-year old has tallied 49 goals and 139 points, leading many to believe he would be the face of the Ducks for years to come.

An unusual contract situation

However, the Ducks have shown little interest in extending him as he hits free agency next summer, and now, this has led to rumours that he could be on the way out, with one Atlantic team waiting to swoop.
According to a recent report, the Buffalo Sabres are keeping an eye on the situation in Anaheim, and with a talented young core of their own, they believe that landing Zegras could be the key to making a big playoff push in 2023-24 and for the foreseeable future.
The Ducks are being choosy [with Zegras]? They want to break it? I heard there's a team looking that way and it's the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabers have to make the playoffs this year and you solve your problem by bringing Zegras.
With Tage Thompson, Owen Power and so many young names, acquiring Zegras would be a massive move for the Sabres, and would overload this roster with players on the cusp of stardom in the NHL, so keep a close eye on this situation moving forward.
