Charged Player of the 2018 WJC Under Fire for Tasteless Post
The 2018 WJC investigation is entering its final stages, but the slow process of the justice system has left five players with essentially a multi-year vacation.
Member of the Charged 2018 WJC Players Posts Vacation Photo Sparkling Public Outrage
Michael McLeod is a tad of an anomaly when it comes to the 2018 WJC charged players, as he faces a second charge over the rest. If convicted, he may face as much as 20 years in prison, yet he doesn't appear phased.
Despite the gravity of his trial, McLeod has been photographed by his girlfriend in a tropical location on vacation. He's made over $3.7M in his career (per CapFriendly), thus he'll be able to live like a king for quite a while.
Unsurprisingly, this post caused significant public outcry.
Sebastian Jackson, who is a notable voice in the fight against digital ad boards in the NHL due to their trigger to epileptic people, made things very clear:
TW SA:
The fact that this piece of unwashed a** was even allowed to cross the border, fly internationally is a disgrace.
Our laws in Canada still allow him to live a life of luxury. It's gross.
You've got black Canadians on trumped up charges from 2008 in crimes much lesser than what he's accused of who can't even cross to Buffalo with out a red card popping up.
Also I hope everybody disturbs their vacation. I hope it rains, storms, I hope he looks at the wrong person the wrong way. I can't even stand to look at him.
From Versatile NHLer to Societal Outcast
Drafted 12th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, McLeod was a reliable forward known for his speed, defensive capabilities, and versatility. He played five seasons with the team ahead of being taken off the roster a few weeks ago.
If the NHLs treatment of this case says anything, it appears that McLeod will never return to the league. It may not even be an option, however, as a prison cell may be waiting for him.
