Logan Mailloux beat the odds last season by making his NHL debut despite the controversy that has followed him since being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens.

Drafted 31st overall by the Montreal Canadiens and former general manager Marc Bergevin in 2021, Logan Mailloux had initially renounced himself from the draft due to criminal charges he faced in Sweden for violation of laws with a woman he had been involved with.

Despite renouncing himself, however, Marc Bergevin and the Montreal Canadiens made the controversial decision not only to draft him, but in the first round.

Now an NHLer on one of the teams with the deepest defensive corps of prospects in the league, Logan Mailloux has been involved in trade talks - and for good reason, as many teams covet a player of his profile - 6 foot 3, and 200 pounds, physical, and with a great shot. He is a prime piece to trade for the Canadiens, and his value should be massive, but, his past is following him. Per Scott Wheeler of The Athletic, when asked who among Mailloux, Jayden Struble, Justin Barron, and Jordan Harris would have the most value, a trade may be more complicated than anticipated, as many teams who could eye him would not touch his file.

"Mailloux is the best prospect but the market would be more limited.

Probably Struble now with the way teams want their defense to be built. However, that doesn't bring major value for him, Barron, or Harris." - Scott Wheeler

Considering trades have started occurring for the off-season, it is possible a Logan Mailloux trade has already fallen through for this reason. It won't be easy for the Montreal Canadiens to move on from the controversial defenseman if they choose to do so.
