Hall-of-Famer Patrick Roy has nothing to prove to anyone. He is arguably the greatest goaltender to ever play in the NHL.

However, despite winning a Memorial Cup Championship with the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL this season, and having experience when there are opportunities available, Roy has openly admitted the way he left during his last stint as an NHL Executive may stop him from getting another.

Bad Choices

Not only is Roy owning up to the terrible optics of the way he left the Colorado Avalanche, but he admits he made bad choices.

"It's hard for me to get a job because of the way I left Colorado."

"I know I made some bad choices. I know the way I left, everything I did, could have an effect on today's perspective on myself. I have to live with that. I know that I've learned from my mistakes. The past is the past but sometimes, you have to live with your past. I understand the situation." - NHL.com

The Past

Roy, who has served as head coach and GM of the Remparts since leaving Colorado, abruptly resigned as coach and vice president of hockey operations with the Avs in 2018. Roy said in the new interview that there was clearly a gap between his vision for the team and that of Joe Sakic.

Sakic was then Executive Vice-President and General Manager for Colorado. He's since been named President of Hockey Operations. Roy explained that, due to his experience with Colorado and Sakic, he's learned his lesson.

"I understand now, better than ever, that you can't be in management and coach a team at the same time. If you're the coach, you coach. If you're GM, that's what you do." - NHL.com
