Since Stan Bowman resigned as the Chicago Blackhawks general manager back in October, the position has remained vacant. However, that doesn't sound like it will be the case for much longer.

On Wednesday, chief executive officer Danny Wirtz released a lengthy statement published by the Blackhawks social media team. In it, he mentions that over the past six weeks, the leadership team has been taking part in a discovery process that has explored the structure of their hockey operations department. From the sounds of things, the next step is to begin reaching out to potential candidates this week to interview for the general manager role. Wirtz says that their plan is to make a final decision in who they will hire prior to the trade deadline, which is on March 21.

While the Blackhawks did experience success under Bowman, many of his blunders in recent years led to the demise of the team. The most notable when it comes to poor moves he made was choosing to deal Artemi Panarin, who was on his way at the time to becoming a superstar and is now one of the best wingers in the game. The new general manager of this club will have his work cut out for him, as this team currently sits seventh in the Central Division and is no where near a playoff caliber team at this point and time.
