Last Tuesday in a game between Washington and Winnipeg, Capitals defenceman Dmitry Orlov collided with Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers, making knee-on-knee contact. Orlov didn't receive a penalty on the play, but the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced the next day that they had suspended him for two games.

Following an evaluation from team doctors, the Jets placed Ehlers on long-term injured reserve, and he won't be eligible to return to their lineup until February 14th at the earliest.

On Monday after their morning skate, Orlov, who will return to action Monday night, told reporters that he reached out to Ehlers to apologize for the hit.

"It sucks I injured the guy. It wasn't on purpose. I was just tried to make a hit and hit his knee." Orlov said.

The 30-year-old defenceman will return to the Capitals lineup on Monday night when they take on the Vegas Golden Knights.
