The man nicknamed "The Russian Rocket" is reportedly set to take over a very powerful position in hockey in his home country. According to reports out of Russia, Vladislav Tretiak is set to retire as President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) in April. Those reports state Bure has been pegged as his successor.

Bure is currently a council member with the International Ice Hockey Federation, an appointment he received in September of last year. He is also a special advisor to the RIHF, a position he has held since last July.

Bure played 702 regular season games in the NHL, notching 437 goals and 779 points. He is a highly-decorated athlete in the world stage, winning several hockey medals with Russia at the Olympics, World Championships and World Junior Championships. Reports note that he has played with Russian President Vladimir Putin at several charity hockey games, but has denied having any political ambitions himself.

Tretiak is widely considered one of the best goaltenders to ever play hockey, and certainly the best to never suit up in the NHL. He's been President of the RIHF since 2006.
