He's usually a fiery character who says whatever is on his mind. However, goaltending legend Patrick Roy had a surprisingly reserved response to news that Kent Hughes has been hired as the new general manager of the Montreal Canadiens. In a previous interview, Roy had been adamant that he was ready, willing and able to take on the role.

"I would like to congratulate Kent Hughes on his appointment and wish him every success in the exercise of his duties," said Roy in a news release from the Quebec Remparts, the QMJHL team with which he serves as head coach and general manager. "I thank the organization for having considered my candidacy in the process that had been put in place."

The news release stated there would be no media availability from Roy for the day.

Roy won two Stanley Cups as a member of the Habs, but failed to make it to the final three candidates being considered. According to reports, besides Hughes, the others on the short list were Daniel Briere and Mathieu Darche.
