Earlier on Friday, Sportsnet's Eric Engels reported that the Montreal Canadiens were closing in on naming a new general manager, with Danny Briere and Mathieu Darche among the remaining candidates.

"Believe Habs GM search could be resolved in the coming days. Told it's down to three candidates, and believe Daniel Briere and Mathieu Darche are two of them. Also expect a couple of others who were interviewed to possibly land jobs with the club," Engels said.

According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, you can add another name to that list, NHLPA-certified player agent Kent Hughes. Hughes' clients include Kris Letang, Patrice Bergeron, Darnell Nurse, Drake Batherson, and Anton Khudobin among others.

"Hearing that agent Kent Hughes has re-entered the picture in the Habs GM search process. Believe Montreal circled back to him this week after he wasn't originally part of interviews. I would put Hughes among those 3-4 candidates," LeBrun said in a tweet.

The Canadiens have been without a general manager since Marc Bergevin was fired on November 28th. On the same day, the team hired Jeff Gorton as executive vice president of hockey operations and has dealt with the day-to-day duties while the GM search has been taking place.
