According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Vancouver Canucks may decide to move veteran goaltender Jaroslav Halak before the trade deadline and part of the reason may be his performance bonus.

If Halak plays two more games, he's owed a $1.25 million bonus that would count towards the Canucks salary cap for the 2022-23 season. Beyond that, the Canucks need quality starts from a backup goaltender. In eight games, the Bratislava, Slovakia native has a record of 1-4-2 with a 2.59 G.A.A. and a .915 save percentage.

"This is interesting. We discussed a bit on the show, so I poked around a bit. I believe the Canucks would consider trading Halak, mostly because Demko is likely to play a lot and the return should be decent for Jaro. The bonus $ is likely part of the equation, but not main reason," Dreger said on Wednesday.

He added, "Keep in mind, Halak has a full no-move. So, he's not going anywhere without consent."

The 36-year-old will likely draw interest from contenders ahead of the trade deadline on March 21st. Nashville, St. Louis, Vegas and Edmonton could be options for Halak.
