The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Wednesday afternoon that they've acquired forward Alexander Nylander in exchange for forward Sam Lafferty.

Nylander, 23, has spent the entire 2021-22 season in the American Hockey League with the Rockford IceHogs. In 23 games, he's tallied twelve points (eight goals, four assists), two penalty minutes, and is a minus-ten.

Lafferty, 26, has appeared in ten games this season for the Penguins where he's recorded two assists and twelve penalty minutes.

The Blackhawks have reportedly been looking to trade Alexander Nylander since late last summer but ultimately didn't find a partner before the season began and assigned to the American Hockey League on October 10th. This will now be Nylander's third team of his young career after he spent time in the Sabres organization before being dealt to Chicago.

As for Lafferty, he's spent his entire five-year professional career in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization after they selected him in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He joined their AHL affiliate, Wilkes-Barre, in 2018 following four years at Brown University.
