During the "32 Thoughts" segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Jeff Marek said that the American Hockey League is still weighing their options when it comes to Olympic participation.

In recent weeks, the AHL has had to cancel over 70 games due to COVID-19, despite that, Marek believes that they will allow players to go to Beijing if selected by their national team and a final decision is likely to come in the next ten days.

"In the next 10 days or so the AHL will make a decision on whether they will allow players under AHL contracts to participate in the Olympics, now we expect this to get the rubber stamp much like it did in 2018," Marek said.

Some names we could see at the Olympics that are on AHL contract are Devan Dubnyk (PTO w/ Charlotte - Team Canada), Cody Franson (Hershey - Team Canada), Jason Garrison (Syracuse - Team Canada), and Josh Ho-Sang (Toronto - Team Canada). Defenceman Cody Goloubef (Belleville) was also mentioned as a potential candidate for Team Canada during the intermission. Goloubef won a bronze medal with Canada at the 2018 Olympics in South Korea.
