Carolina Hurricanes star forward Teuvo Teravainen recently told Finnish outlet Yle Sport that according to the information he saw in his team's group chat, the NHL's participation in the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics is officially cancelled.

Teravainen stated that after a call from the NHL Players Association, the information made its way into a Canes online chat group. Teravainen, 27, has yet to represent his country at the Olympics. He said that he hopes he will get his chance in four years from now.

Yle Sport attempted to contact Sean Bergenheim, the NHLPA's European Affairs Representative. Bergenheim declined to comment on contents of the call or the NHL's decision, which has yet to be officially announced.
