Marc-Antoine Godin of The Athletic interviewed five scouts recently to see what the Canadiens could get in return for their veteran players ahead of the trade deadline on March 21st.

One scout, when asked about the possibility of Carey Price being traded, said that the Canadiens could get a first round pick and a prospect in return, at minimum.

"It's not possible for some clubs, but the Canadiens would need to take back part of his salary for the four years, argues scout #5. What is he worth? In my opinion, a first-round pick and a prospect, that's for sure. Minimum."

Scout #3 added that one team that could trade for Carey Price is the Colorado Avalanche. If that happens, it wouldn't be the first time Montreal has traded a star goaltender to the Avalanche (Patrick Roy - 1995).

"With what he's shown in the playoffs, he should have two or three more years of solid hockey, depending on whether he comes back okay from his injury and his off-ice issues have been sorted out," said scout #3. I think Colorado would be a good fit for him. Darcy Kuemper has the reputation of an often injured goaltender and is still the case this year."

Price, 34, has yet to play a game this season due to recovery from off-season knee surgery, as well as entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program to help with substance abuse.

The Anahim Lake, British Columbia native has four years left on his contract following the 2021-22 season with an AAV of $10.5 million. He'll be an unrestricted free agent in July 2026.
