Storhamar has laid down the hammer on Rasmus Ahlholm after he viciously crosschecked a teammate during practice earlier this week. After initially saying that Ahlholm was banned from practicing with teammates while an investigation took place, Storhamar has announced that Ahlholm is no longer welcome with the team and has been officially cut.

"Such an action is totally unacceptable and very serious. We see no mitigating circumstances around what happened," said Storhamar in a news release. "We have tried to carry out an orderly process with the parties involved, and we therefore had to spend some time to see if we could reach an amicable final agreement with Rasmus. We did not succeed in this and thus we had to go to this step."

"This is in stark contrast to everything we stand for in this club," said Storhamar about Ahlholm's crosscheck. "We are a large hockey environment in Hamar where unity and good values on and off the ice are central."

"I think it is incredibly sad that it ends in this way," said Ahlholm himself when asked for comment.

Ahlholm had previously said there were incidents leading up to the crosscheck between himself and teammate Jacob Lundell Noer. Team captain Patrick Thoresen had said he attempted to smooth over the situation between the two, but was unable to do so. He also strongly condemned Ahlholm's actions, calling them "completely unacceptable."

Storhamar plays in a Norwegian hockey league called GET-ligaen.
