Paul Maurice abruptly and unexpectedly resigns in Winnipeg

In an absolutely shocking turn of events, Paul Maurice has resigned from his position as head coach of the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. The announcement was made via the team's official Twitter PR account at 10:30am EST.

It was also announced that assistant coach Dave Lowry has accepted the interim head coaching position in Winnipeg and will take over immediately, with his first game as the interim head coach set to take place this evening against the Washington Capitals.

Both Paul Maurice and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff are expected to speak with the media shortly, at which point, it will become more clear as to why Maurice has resigned.

Maurice has been the head coach of the Jets since the 2013-14 season.
