The Flint Firebirds seem to be in a bit of trouble today, as they hosted an auction on player's jerseys on Saturday night. Of course, the auction was not the problem. The problem is what one of their players reportedly did during the bidding.
According to OHLInsiders, there are people claiming that Brennan Othmann was present during the bidding, and he was apparently making gestures towards a bidder trying to get him to stop bidding. Apparently, some people think he was gesturing a throat slash towards the bidder.
The proceeds of the auction go to help local kids around the holidays, so it is definitely not a good look for Othmann if he did in fact do this.
One claim states that a family (Othmann's billet family) stood up and stared down the man bidding against him and then went over during the bidding and told the fan to stop bidding on the jersey. Then, after the jersey auction, the family of Othmann was waiting in the lobby to confront the man bidding and was apparently ready to start a fight.
Othmann has enjoyed a great start to the 2021-22 OHL season, recording 36 points (19 goals, 17 assists) in 23 games with the Flint Firebirds. This development will not be helping his reputation as a person off the ice, which is something that many teams are cracking down more heavily on. It appears a complaint has been filed with the league.
There are claims out there as well that Brennan Othmann was present and was making gestures towards a bidder trying to get him to stop bidding.
