On a day that has been long awaited for many Vancouver Canucks fans, the day has finally come. Jim Benning has been fired.

Benning, who has held the general manager position since 2014 has made plenty of questionable moves during his time in Vancouver, and it is somewhat surprising this didn't happen sooner.

Along with Benning, assistant general manager John Weisbrod has also been let go. The majority of the draft picks during his time have failed to make any substantial contributions, and Benning also pushed the Canucks into a deep salary cap hit that they will have trouble escaping.

The team made the playoffs just twice during Benning's tenure, and both appearances only saw the team win one round. Benning has been holding a team back with plenty of talent for long enough, and this will be a much needed fresh start for a team that seems to have many problems right now.
