While player agents don't tend to get much recognition in the sporting world, Allan Walsh is a name that many hockey fans will recognize.

The outspoken NHL agent has made a name for himself on Twitter over the years, as he is not afraid to call out the league, nor is he afraid to stand up for his clients. That was proven during the 2020 playoffs when he infamously tweeted out a picture of his client Marc-Andre Fleury with a sword in his back after the team chose to start Robin Lehner. Fast forward to where we are now, and Walsh is still making headlines, this time by choosing to rip the NHL's front office.

Late on Tuesday, Walsh tweeted out a memo that was sent from the NHL to all of the 32 teams general managers and coaches back on Oct. 18. It reads as follows

«We have already seen several instances of head coaches making unacceptable public comments critical of officiating and video replay decisions, as well as unprofessional conduct on the bench in response to penalty calls, non-Calls and even icing calls. All General Managers and coaches are hereby put on notice that, effective immediately, all such public comments and demeaning displays that are critical of officiating, video replay and supplemental discipline specifically, and, more generally the League and the game, will result in an automatic fine of not less than $25,000.»

This seems pretty ridiculous from the league, given that it is being noticed more and more by fans of the game just how inconsistent NHL officiating is. If the league wants to fix the problem, they need to better instruct their officials on how they want the game called, as they at times appear uncertain. This is by no means an insult to the officials as they have an extremely difficult job, but more so to the league itself. If you don't want teams complaining, fix the problem.
