The San Jose Sharks announced on Friday afternoon that long-time general manager Doug Wilson is taking a temporary medical leave of absence.

Through their Twitter account, the Sharks released a statement that said, "The San Jose Sharks announced today General Manager Doug Wilson will be taking a temporary medical leave from his day-to-day activities. In the interim, Assistant General Manager Joe Will will be handling the team's day-to-day operations."

Wilson, 64, has been the general manager of the San Jose Sharks since 2003 and served as the team's first captain during his playing career in 1991. During his tenure as GM, Wilson has led the Sharks to five Conference Finals appearances, as well as their first-ever appearance in the Stanley Cup Final in 2016. For his efforts on the ice, Wilson was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame earlier this month.

Our thoughts are with Doug Wilson at this time.
