Mark Barberio's crosscheck to the face of Garret Roe has caused some major damage, according to reports out of Switzerland. Barberio, now playing for Lausanne HC of the Swiss National League, nailed Roe of the ZSC Lions with a brutal crosscheck on Sunday, an act he would land him just a two minute penalty. Here's the video. The last couple of seconds shows the best angle of the crosscheck.

It is now known that Roe will miss several weeks with a broken jaw. According to swisshockeynew.ch, Roe was operated on all night Sunday and into Monday morning.

While Barberio received just a minor penalty during the game, the league has announced that "proceedings have been initiated against him for the incident", which means a suspension is likely on the way.

Barberio, 31, played 272 games in the NHL with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche. This is his second season in Switzerland.

Roe is a former draft pick of the LA Kings in 2008, but has been playing in Europe since 2012. The 33-year-old is one of the Lions top players, with 19 points (6G, 13A) in 22 games this season.
