In recent months, the hockey community has began to learn about Matvei Michkov, a 16-year-old who is dubbed by many as the next Alexander Ovechkin.

Michkov, who has played 10 games in the KHL with SKA St. Petersburg this season, is set to break Ovechkin's record for the youngest player to debut on the Russian National Team. Ovechkin previously held the record at the age of 17 years 11 months and 15 days. On Wednesday, the Washington Capitals superstar sent out a video congratulating Michkov on the major accomplishment.

This certainly won't be the last we hear about Michkov. In fact, it's only just beginning. At this point, he is considered a top prospect for the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, with some believing he may have what it takes to go first overall ahead of Canadian phenom Connor Bedard. Time will tell on that, but it appears that the NHL will have more young elite talent in the near future.
