When the Montreal Canadiens returned home from their four-game road trip to Seattle and California, they made a decision to send rookie forward Cole Caufield to the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League.

Every rookie will go through a slump, Caufield's just happened to be right at the beginning of the season. In ten games, the 20-year-old has only recorded one assist and has yet to find the back of the net, something he has been known for at every level he's played at.

Following the news of Caufield's demotion, former Hab and current Tampa Bay Lightning forward Corey Perry reached out to the young forward according to Simon-O. Lorange of La Presse.

The leadership Perry is showing is remarkable, especially considering he's not even on the Canadiens anymore. Perry also knows what it feels like to be sent to the AHL early in his career. Perry cracked the Anaheim Ducks roster to start the 2005-06 season, but early into the season he was sent down to their AHL affiliate in Portland.

Caufield needs to find his scoring touch and regain his confidence during his stint with the Laval Rocket. Prior to joining the Canadiens last spring, the Mosinee, Wisconsin native played in a couple games with Laval, scoring three goals and adding an assist.

Laval's next game is on November 6th when they travel to Syracuse to take on the Crunch. Caufield will more than likely be in the lineup for that contest and it's a safe bet he'll be given ample opportunity to score by being on the first line and first powerplay unit.
