It was a fresh start, and a new opportunity for Josh Ho-Sang when he signed a professional tryout contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs after spending the previous season in Sweden and four seasons before that in the Islanders organization.

The former first round pick has been known more for what has happened off the ice, rather than his potential on it. During the Islanders main camp in 2015, Ho-Sang was late for the first day and subsequently sent back to the Niagara Ice Dogs in the Ontario Hockey League.

Flash forward to 2021, and as mentioned, he has a fresh start with a new organization. The Maple Leafs cut him from their roster late in training camp, but he signed an AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies.

The 25-year-old is content where he is in his career right now, not necessarily focused on being in the NHL, and is just happy to be playing the game he loves.

"I just don't really care anymore. I'm just not fixated on playing in the NHL. Like I love playing hockey. I used to be really bummed when I wasn't playing in the NHL because that was my dream, but I shifted my focus to just I get to play a game for a living," Ho-Sang said.

He added, "And that's hard. You spend your entire childhood dreaming about playing in the NHL, and then someone says, 'No, you're not ready.' And you're like 'I am!' They're like, 'No you're not.' And that's a tough pill to swallow at 18 to 21. You get rebellious and angry and you don't have gratitude for situation that you're in. And I think a lot of young guys struggle with that. But for me, like I said, I'm just grateful. If it gets me to the NHL, awesome. If it doesn't, I'm happy here."

The Toronto, Ontario native is off to an incredible start with the Marlies, scoring five goals in six games.
