Ottawa Senators goaltender Matt Murray was forced to leave Saturday afternoon's game against the New York Rangers following a third period collision with Rangers forward Chris Kreider.

The play came with 5:24 remaining in the game when the Rangers, down 2-0 to the Sens, worked their cycle on the power play with Kreider driving hard to the net, resulting in the Rangers' first goal of the game and the unfortunate injury to Murray, after taking a Kreider knee to the head.

Sens backup Anton Forsberg was forced into the game late, coming in cold, but could not hold the fort as the Rangers scored the equalizer just over a minute later - with Braclay Goodrow's eventual game-winner coming with about 2 minutes remaining in the contest.

Sens head coach DJ Smith did not have an update on Murray's condition after the game, but he did confirm that Kreider's knee to the head caused the injury.

Kreider has a bit of a history with goalie collisions and, while this one did not exactly seem intentional, he also didn't try too hard to avoid the contact - though, Murray appeared to be sliding forward and out of the blue paint.

This is certainly an unfortunate injury for Murray who was looking to rebound after a very tough 2020-21 season.
