Ben Hutton signs a PTO to return to California

After a very brief stint in Canada with the Toronto Maple Leafs, defenceman Ben Hutton is returning to the team that traded him in March, the Anaheim Ducks. According to CapFriendly, Hutton as signed a professional tryout contract with the team and will join them for training camp in the coming days.

Hutton, 28, was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the fifth round, 147th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. After three seasons at the University of Maine, Hutton joined the Canucks organization, where he spent a total of four seasons. Following his tenure with Vancouver, he signed as free agent with Los Angeles, before joining their state rivals, the Anaheim Ducks for the 2020-21 season. In 379 career games, Hutton has 91 points (16 G, 75 A), 139 penalty minutes, and is a -83.

The Brockville, Ontario native will look to gain a spot on the Ducks' defensive core alongside Cam Fowler, Hampus Lindholm, Jamie Drysdale, Josh Manson, Kevin Shattenkirk, and Jacob Larsson.

Hutton could see game action as early as Saturday against the Los Angeles Kings. That would give him at least three or four days to get up to game speed.
