Florida Panthers goaltender Samuel Montembeault was placed on waivers by the team recently, and he was the only player in the NHL to be claimed by a team on Saturday. The Montreal Canadiens claimed him off waivers, which is pretty cool considering he was born in Quebec.
The 24-year-old posted an 8-4-1 record in 13 games with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL in 2020-21. Along with this, he had a 2.86 GAA to go with an .898 SV%. In his 25 game NHL career, Montembeault is 9-8-3 with a 3.20 GAA and .892 SV%, all coming with the Panthers.
Montembeault was selected in the third round (77th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, and it seems that he could get some time to play in the preseason.
