Peter Chiarelli, the role of former Bruins and Oilers general manager, has received a new role with the St. Louis Blues that gives him much more power. The Blues have named Chiarelli Vice-President of Hockey Operations, which means he's very close to the GM in the pecking order.

"The Blues announce that Peter Chiarelli has been named VP of hockey operations. Dave Taylor, who previously held that role, will be a senior advisor to hockey operations," said The Athletic's Jeremy Rutherford.

"Also, Ken Hitchcock - yes Hitch - will rejoin the organization as a coaching consultant."

Chiarelli, 57, has been working in the NHL since 1999, when he was named a scout for the Ottawa Senators. From there, he went on to become the general manager of the Boston Bruins from 2006 to 2015, winning the Stanley Cup with them in 2011. A week after his dismissal in Boston, Chiarelli was hired to be the general manager of the Edmonton Oilers. He held that position until January 2019 when he was fired. He was involved in some terrible trades that essentially set the team back, while handing out large contracts to players many feel didn't deserve it.

Hitchcock, 69, spent parts of 22 seasons in the NHL as a head coach for the Dallas Stars (two stints), Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues, and Edmonton Oilers. He won the Stanley Cup with Dallas in 1999. The Edmonton, Alberta native currently sits fourth all-time in wins for NHL head coaches with 877.
