The Minnesota Wild and the Kirill Kaprizov camp can now breathe a collective sigh of relief, as all sides seemed to have gotten what they wanted.

Kaprizov, 24, cashed in on a 5-year, $45M deal, making him the highest paid player in Wild franchise history after scoring nearly a point-per-game with 51 points in 55 games in his first NHL season and capturing the Calder Trophy.

Meanwhile, the Wild got their top offensive player locked through the vast majority of his prime years and can put some very tough negotiations in the rearview mirror and focus on replicating last year's success and try to build on it.

On Wednesday, when Kaprizov and GM Bill Guerin met with the media, the question was asked to Kaprizov whether or not there was ever any real intent to play hockey in the KHL this season.

Kaprizov's response was actually quite simple and should surprise exactly no one, given what the difference in salary was likely to have been.

«No chance,» said the Russian winger who will undoubtedly look to take a big step in his sophomore season in 2021-22.

That should certainly sit well with Wild fans, knowing now that their new favourite son only has eyes for the National Hockey League.

Guerin didn't miss his opportunity to chime in on Kaprizov's response, breaking any tension that fans may or may not have assumed might have been there between Dollar Dollar Bill Kirill and his GM.

«You shouldn't answer that. You're going to blow it for the next contract negotiation," Guerin joked.

It's nice to see that Guerin hasn't lost his sense of humour throughout a lengthy and, at times, tenuous negotiation process.
