With training camp set to open in a few days, the Ottawa Senators still don't have a deal with restricted free agent Brady Tkachuk. Tkachuk has been working out in St. Louis and Michigan while waiting for a deal to get done. Meanwhile, Senators fans are getting nervous about exactly where this is all going. According to Pierre McGuire, the Sens' Senior Vice-president of Player Development, they shouldn't be.

McGuire told Ottawa colour commentator Gord Wilson that the club has had five conversations with Tkachuk - including some face-to-face talks - regarding a new contract and he wouldn't describe any of them as "acrimonious" (angry or bitter). He added that both sides have their take on what the new contract should look like and he expects more conversations in the very near future.

According to rumours, Tkachuk has received an offer of 8 years at $8 million AAV. He's played in 198 NHL games so far, scoring 125 points (60G, 65A).

While McGuire seems optimistic about the negotiations, Brady's brother Matthew recently indicated to two sides really aren't very close, saying both he and his father have had a role in advising Brady on his new deal.
