Earlier this offseason, former Colorado Avalanche defenseman Nikita Zadorov revealed to the world that former teammate and Avs forward Nathan MacKinnon maintained a very strict with his diet and is the type of guy who likes to try to influence his teammates to eat like he does.

In his comments, Zadorov had stated that MacKinnon had the organization remove all soda, ice cream and other desserts from the team's facilities and that he would actively observe his teammates eating habits, criticize them and ask that they refrain from eating certain foods until the offseason.

The story ended up being pretty far-reaching and seemed to strike a chord with the content creators around the internet, yielding many exceptional memes and things of that nature.

On Thursday, MacKinnon himself spoke about the outrageous claims, openly denying what Zadorov had suggested back in August, stating that things were blown way out of proportion.

«Big Z is a bit of a donkey. I saw all of the memes. That got a little out of hand. I'm a regular guy. I'm not crazy. I get In-N-Out after games.»

So, while MacKinnon may tweak parts of his diet to include healthier alternatives on occasion, such as chickpea pasta, apparently he does leave plenty of room for the finer things in life - such as cheeseburgers and milkshakes, just like the rest of us.

Still.. the memes that came out of it were sensational and my fantasy hockey team name - The Chickpea Pasta Police - would not have been possible were it not for Zadorov's allegations, so I'll thank him for that!
