San Jose Sharks star center Tomas Hertl has been a fan favorite ever since showing up to the Bay Area eight years ago. The fan favorite may not be in San Jose much longer though. He recently told a Czech-based news outlet that he is unsure about his future with the team.

«I wonder if San Jose will want to re-sign me, and if I'll want to stay there,» Hertl told iDNES.cz. «I don't want to think about it so it doesn't negatively affect me. I'll start the season and see how it turns out.»

Hertl could become one of the top trade deadline targets if he were to become available. He thinks that all of the trade rumors are being generated from the media, but he also said, «I also haven't gotten any indication that they would like me to stay. No one ever knows what the bosses are thinking. I'm trying not to think about it.»

The Sharks were a playoff contender for many years, but they have fallen off the past two seasons, finishing 29th and 26th overall. The team is currently in a «reset» according to general manager Doug Wilson.

Hertl was arguably the Sharks' best player last season, tallying 19 goals and 24 assists in 50 games.

«San Jose is in a more complicated situation than we're used to,» Hertl said. «In my early seasons, we went far in our battle for the Stanley Cup. But the past two years have been really hard because we knew that we wouldn't even make the playoffs several games before the season ended.»
