The goaltending picture is becoming somewhat clearer in Raleigh, as the Carolina Hurricanes are expected to try to negotiate new contracts for both Petr Mrazek and the newly acquired Jonathan Bernier prior to the start of free agency.

TSN's Pierre LeBrun announced on Twitter on Friday that it is Canes GM Don Waddell's intention to secure new deals for Bernier and Mrazek, though he admits that it's not a foregone conclusion that both get done.

Bernier was acquired Thursday in a deal that saw the Detroit Red Wings ship his negotiating rights, along with a 3rd round pick, to the Hurricanes in exchange for Calder Trophy finalist, goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic.

Obviously, this leaves one odd man out in Raleigh, as Pierre LeBrun has confirmed that the Canes are expected to let pending UFA James Reimer walk via free agency on July 28th.

Reimer will be an intriguing option for several teams who might be looking for a reliable veteran backup goaltender.
