The NHL is about to take another big step with the 32nd franchise, the Seattle Kraken, looming to take a player from each team in the upcoming expansion draft. One team that is looking to make moves before the offseason gets going too fast is the Vancouver Canucks.
Vancouver general manager Jim Benning is reportedly looking to move some contracts in order to reshape his roster and get the Canucks back into the postseason.
«The next 24 hours, combined with what's going to happen in the expansion draft, combined with what's going to happen in free agency, it's going to be interesting.»
Benning did not try to hide the fact that he is looking to make a trade.
Nate Schmidt is among the players that the Canucks could look at moving in order to gain some cap space. Goaltender Brayden Holtby could also possess some trade value, but it could be difficult to get a lot in return for the aging veteran. Of course the team would also love to move Loui Eriksson and his huge contract, but the team likely does not have the assets in order to move him to another team.
