Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney dropped a bombshell comment earlier today when they announced a link between the Oilers and Brayden Schenn.

With the looming March 7 NHL trade deadline, there's growing speculation around St. Louis captain Brayden Schenn. Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney weighed in on it during their Spittin' Chiclets podcast.

Schenn is a Stanley Cup champion

Schenn was greatly admired by Whitney for his Stanley Cup heritage, toughness, and veteran know-how. The veteran forward is four games short of hitting his 1,000th career game in his 16th season in the NHL.

"This is the guy who's wrapped up a Winter Classic Game he's played phenomenal and then, for fun, wants to fight Nick Foligno, just so he could say he fought at Wrigley Field in an outdoor game, a warrior, a Stanley Cup champ, a captain who signed for three more seasons after this one at six and a half, apparently like it would take a haul," Whitney said.

He's already been a member of the Kings and Flyers and has a career count of 667 points (271 goals, 396 assists). He's got 11 goals and 21 assists in 56 games this season.

Schenn's career high was in his 2017-18 season when he tallied 28 goals and put up 70 points. He's in year five of his eight-year, $52 million ($6.5 million cap hit) contract that has three remaining.

The Blues would demand a high price if contenders covet Schenn, said Whitney, adding he's hearing interest coming from Oilers and Golden Knights.

"Every year, they (Golden Knights) do something that nobody saw coming. If they all of a sudden at the deadline get Brayden Schenn, that may be the end of me knowing that freaking Edmonton's gonna have to play him in the second round."

As struggling St. Louis is sitting in 24th place in the standings and heading towards again missing the post-season, it's likely that GM Doug Armstrong is open to hearing proposals.

Schenn's leadership and offense are a great option for contenders to provide depth.
