Boeser was blindsided by a high hit from Jeannot in LA last Thursday in a play that resulted in him leaving the game early. Since then, the Canucks have had just one game, a 7-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. Understandably, Boeser did not participate in that one.
Many fans thought that Jeannot deserved some kind of supplementary discipline from the league for the hit, namely, a suspension. In fact, he did end up getting a three-game suspension for the hit. Furthermore, for what it is worth, the Canucks did score on the 5-minute powerplay and they went on to win the game so they did get some justice.
That being said, we do not know how long the Canucks forward will remain out of the lineup. Officially, the team has not designated him for IR, so he theoretically could return at any moment. The team's next game is tomorrow at 7PM PST as they take on the Calgary Flames. According to Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet, Boeser is out day-to-day so he could potentially get into the lineup as soon as tomorrow, but fans should not count on it.
Assuming Boeser does miss the game, it could be a great opportunity for a young Canuck to step up. This morning, Jonathan lekkerimäki, drafted 15th overall by the Canucks in 2022, was practicing with Boeser's typical linemates, a sign that he could be in for a top-six role tomorrow night.
Should he get into the lineup, it would be Lekkerimäki's NHL debut. The Swedish winger has 5 goals and 7 points through 7 games at the AHL level this season. That alone is reason enough for Canucks fans to be excited, so be sure to tune in tomorrow night to see whether or not Boeser returns to the lineup or if Lekkerimäki will introduce himself to the league.
