Wayne Gretzky to play alongside Charles Barkley and other celebrities in million-dollar golf match

The Match has become a huge hit in the golf and sporting world, and now in 2024 we will see NHL icon Wayne Gretzky involved alongside some big name celebrities.

Wayne Gretzky is seen by many as the greatest player to ever play in the NHL, and for many, he's the biggest personality and name that the league has ever produced. That will be on full display once again in the near future, as The Great One is joining the likes of Charles Barkley, Ken Griffey and Michael Phelps for a blockbuster golf tournament known as 'The Match'.

The Match began in 2018 with a showdown between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, and has seen many superstars in the sports world such as Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Charles Barkley, Stephen Curry, Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes competing over the six years since that first event. Now, they are seemingly changing up the format, with eight celebrities joining together for a bracket that will see some huge names do battle on a big stage.

Over the years, Gretzky has professed his love for golf and show himself to be an incredible player, and with his daughter Paula Gretzky marrying PGA Tour superstar Dustin Johnson, golf simply runs in the family. During this event, Gretzky has a very intriguing partner in actor Bill Murray, as they will face off against Barkley and Griffey in the first round.

While many will tune in for the other athletes involved in the event, hockey fans should enjoy the coverage with Gretzky involved, and with the personality we've seen from him over the years, he'll be a big part of the game. Unsurprisingly, this is still expected to be a huge event on the sports calendar, and with the star power of Gretzky and the other celebrities involved, it will be must-watch with plenty of entertainment value.
