Tonight the Edmonton Oilers have encountered a nightmare scenario as superstar forward Connor McDavid has suffered a major injury.

This evening during the first period of the Edmonton Oilers game against the Columbus Blue Jackets Connor McDavid fell and suffered a lower-body injury. On the play, Zach Werenski tripped Connor McDavid sending him flying into the boards.

After the collision, Connor McDavid immediately returned to the bench and down the tunnel to the locker room. A few minutes later it was announced he would not return to the game.

On the play, Connor McDavid did not seem to be in any obvious discomfort but his injury is clearly serious enough for him to not return tonight. As of now, the Oilers have not provided an update on what happened or an initial diagnosis for Connor McDavid.

This is just another terrible moment in an awful start to the Edmonton Oilers season. Connor McDavid was one of the few players keeping the Oilers afloat during their bad start. Without him, Leon Draisaitl will need to step up big time and become one of the best players in the NHL during Connor McDavid's absence. If the Oilers cannot get Leon Draisaitl and other depth forwards like Corey Perry, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Zach Hyman to step up they could risk missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs altogether.

The Edmonton Oilers are likely to provide an update after the game on Connor McDavid. This will likely be the first time we truly understand what Connor McDavid is dealing with and how long he could potentially be out of the Edmonton Oilers lineup. As those updates are provided by the Edmonton Oilers we will pass them along to you.
