Jacob Trouba has long been considered one of the NHL's dirtiest players, and against the Montreal Canadiens, he solidified that title with a ridiculous hit.

Against the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Rangers have made it clear that they are the far superior and far more talented team, as they have run away with victory on the NHL's marquee night, Frozen Frenzy. Unfortunately, the game turned ugly when Jacob Trouba blasted defenseman Justin Barron with this ridiculous hit, yet another in a long line of plays from the Rangers captain that has resulted in an injury or two to opposing players.

It looked bad at first viewing, and it didn't get much better after that, with the slow motion replay showing a raised elbow right to Barron's head, before it would collide with the ice in a very scary situation. Barron was helped off the ice in a very tough situation to watch, with plenty of concern after his head was his not once but twice in quick succession.

As a result, veteran Mike Matheson went after the New York Rangers captain, getting a five minute fighting penalty as well as two for instigating and a further 10 minute game misconduct, doing an admirable job standing up for his teammate.

This isn't the first time we've seen a Trouba hit completely turn a game and take someone out in unnecessary fashion, and it wouldn't not be a surprise if this one resulted in a massive fine and a suspension. While it's clear that Trouba wants to play with an edge as he looks to lead the Rangers to the Stanley Cup, he walks that line a little too tightly sometimes, and it results in ridiculous, unnecessary plays like this way too often.
