The 2024/25 season has started with a bang for the Utah Hockey Club, and after beating down on some division rivals, they sit at 4-1-1 after their first six games in NHL history. Unfortunately, the injury bug continues to hit them hard, as John Marino was already out for an extended time, with Elliotte Friedman revealing how far away their summer acquisition is from a return.
That's not the only injury they have to deal with however, as veteran Sean Durzi recently went down, and according to Friedman, he'll be out for an extended period of time.
The team have already signed a replacement for Durzi, but that's not quite enough, as it's expected the team will look to use some draft capital to find a significant addition to their blue line.
Unsurprisingly, they've been linked to many players since the injury, with Friedman putting out the big name of Timothy Liljegren, who has reportedly been on the trade block for the past few weeks in Toronto. Friedman doesn't name drop Liljegren, but has talked about him as an option for several teams out there, and with him being exactly what Utah need, it's easy to connect the dots.
Given how aggressive Ryan Smith, Bill Armstrong and the front office were this off-season, it wouldn't surprise to see them making big moves at some point this year, and with such a promising start, if they can find someone like Liljegren, it makes perfect sense for both sides to make it happen.
