Rutger McGroarty got mocked last night as Winnipeg Jets fans made fun of him for demanding a trade and then being sent to the AHL by the Pittsburgh Penguins

Hockey fans can be a very passionate bunch, so players have to realize that demanding a trade away from a team can have lasting consequences. That was on full display last night in a game between the Winnipeg Jets and Pittsburgh Penguins.

As you may recall, Rutger McGroarty, the 14th overall pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 2022, demanded a trade away from the team before the 2024-25 season began citing the need to play in the NHL. He went to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and was then sent to the AHL after three pointless games.

With the Pittsburgh Pengiuns in Winnipeg to take on the Jets last night, fans decided to let Rutger McGroarty know just what they thought of his trade request, and his trip to the minors by chanting "Where is Rutger" throughout the game.

roasted the Winnipeg Jets in his first press conference as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins saying he was upfront and honest with the team and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, telling them straight up he wouldn't be signing with them. The 20-year-old now has first first taste of eating crow in his career for not being able to hang on to an NHL sport even after getting traded.

The chanting must have fired up the rest of the Winnipeg Jets as the team cruised to a 6-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Four players, Mason Appleton, Nikolaj Ehlers, Colin Miller, and Josh Morrisey has multiple points in the game.
