The Utah Hockey Club have just found out that their star defenseman Sean Durzi will be out until next year, so they've signed Terrell Goldsmith for depth.

In one of the major milestones of his career, Utah Hockey Club defenseman Terrell Goldsmith has signed an entry-level, three-year contract. The signing marked his first pro contract and represents an important step as he moves from junior hockey into the pros. Utah has relocated from the Arizona Coyotes, and are looking to take the next step as a franchise. When the team heard that star defenseman Sean Durzi would be out for four to five months, they had to take quick action to help replace their team's depth. Goldsmith's signing underlines Utah's commitment to nurturing young players.

Goldsmith was a fourth-round pick of the Coyotes in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. He is touted for his physical play and high hockey instincts on the back end. The 19-year-old has already become a force to be dealt with on the blue line this past year playing in the WHL. He is projected by the Utah organization as a long-term asset. The work in preparing for the near future is already underway as the team attempts to solidify depth on defense. In his fifth year with the WHL, the development path of Goldsmith has been good.

Last season he played 66 games with the Prince Albert Raiders, notching 15 points (3 goals and 12 assists) and 122 penalty minutes. He has been praised for his versatility and his ability to stand up for teammates through his blend of offense and rugged play. Hard-nosed Goldsmith isn't afraid of physical confrontations, either.

While his totals on offense aren't jumping off the charts, Goldsmith's real value is in his defensive game and leadership qualities. Being a big penalty killer, shot blocker, and more physical on opponents is a huge part of his game, and those tools could well be focused on as he starts his professional career. His time in the WHL will be vital in helping him adjust to the pace and physicality that come with professional hockey.

Though he has a long way to go, his track record of being physical, a leader, and steadily improving is indicative of a player who could make an impact at the professional level. For now, all eyes will be on his development with Utah as he tries to prove himself and work his way to the goal of earning a roster spot in the NHL.
