The Calgary Flames are off to a 4-0-0 start this season, and now it appears GM Craig Conroy is looking to be aggressive on the trade market.

While many believed the Calgary Flames were looking to rebuild heading into the 2024/25 season, their 4-0-0 start may ultimately prove to be a shift in mentality for the front office. Sure, they aren't going 82-0-0 this season and they may ultimately fall short of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but this is a team that clearly has some great young talent, led by the trio of Dustin Wolf, Connor Zary and Martin Pospisil.

Now, reports have emerged that General Manager Craig Conroy is working the phones hard, looking to find a young centre of the future for their middle-six via trade, according to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli.

"Not usually much trade activity to start a season, but I'm told Flames GM Craig Conroy has been working the phones in recent days to try and find a center to add to the Calgary Flames in their middle six, preferably someone who fits their age scheme, preferably, in a perfect world, a right shooting center."

The type of names that have been brought up in the comments including Mavrik Borque, Dylan Cozens and Anton Lundell just to name a few, and while the team aren't completely rebuilding, they're not going all in either, as this would be a move to eventually one day replace captain Mikael Backlund on the third line. Ultimately, it's unclear if Conroy wants to use a top trade piece like Rasmus Andersson to get a deal done, and while the team should certainly avoid using draft picks to make a deal happen, if the price is right, this could be a major move that upgrades the future of this team while keeping them alive in the present.
